Climate strategy
A good climate strategy gets you out in front of foreseeable shocks and stresses by actively building resilience wherever you have responsibilities or dependencies.
That means an accurate read of the hazards that are material for you and a careful analysis of the consequences for people, processes, assets and value chains. Done well, it could – and perhaps should – change your views about the decisions that need to be made.
A good climate strategy will also drive change, both within your organisation and in your wider context. So your risk analysis needs to examine your own capabilities and capacities for change, as well as the institutional and political context you operate in.
A good analysis provides information for climate strategy but also the case for change to stakeholders and partners, who will be focussed on what is uncertain for them.
It will also identify where you need to invest in research or work out differences in evaluative and conceptual frameworks, which are also sources of deep uncertainty.
Vague talk about the ‘uncertainties’ only deepens it, transforming it into conflict about concepts, values and evidence.
